Fuel mileage

I always keep track of all my fillips, average per tank and brand.

I know on my TW in az which brand of fuel I get the best mileage. I do the same station for 6 fills in a row. There is definitely a difference.

I haven’t tried that on the van van yet, but in the last 10 fills it has average 83 to 98. If I ride 35-40 it was in the 90’s. That is during break in.

Now I have 1500 miles I’m riding faster, but never over 50, and it is in the 80’s.

I prefer the side roads and less traveled. More stop signs, but I like to sight see a lot. I’m in Illinois so I look at a lot of crops for the farmer I help occasionally.

I also have a 4 gallon milk crate on the back on a cycle rack carrier. I run a lot of errands, and I can just throw stuff in the back, and not have to strap it down. My tw’s all have 6 gallon crates and I can haul more. Looking for a 6 gallon one but they seem to only sell the 4 gallon ones in this area. All the 6 gallon ones I got out of dumpsters in az.

Like last night on the way home I got a pizza for evening meal.

Anyhow, curious on mileage other people get. In AZ you better know, because stations in the desert are few and far between. I can drive 80+ miles south of our town, and not one station.

We haven't calculated MPG for the wife's VV but, riding with the wife during break in, my KLR-650 got 58.5 mpg. I usually get 50 mpg when riding with my buddies on KLR'S & DR-650's. I have the IMS 6.6 gallon tank on my KLR so we just gas up before each ride & carry a siphon hose with us. No chance of the VV running out of gas in W.Tn with this set up. Good to know 80+ mpg can be expected with the VV, thanks for sharing your experience.

I've been filling up at around 80 miles and tend to buy 1 to 1.1 gallons. My old DR350 ('99) generally got around 75 to 80 miles per gallon. A stiff headwind however, could lower that to 50 mpg!
I'm 68 (soon) and have had many bikes through the years. I've got about 450 miles on my '19 VV and wring it out from time to time. I'm a believer that the only reason a modern motorcycle needs a break-in period is in case someone at the factory forgot to tighten a nut or something. That being said, most of my bikes have ended up wasted before they hit 20,000 miles. (I'm so proud of myself. My Triumph Tiger had nearly 70K on it when I bought the VV.)

What does that mean? The engines broke before 20,000 miles?

I've mostly ridden street-legal dirt bikes, and ridden them hard. I haven't always had my eye on preventive maintenance. I'm older and (I hope) wiser now.
That, and the fact that I tended to get tired of bikes way too soon meant the early death of many.
I made a deal on a 2001 Bonny this afternoon. Now I really need to get rid of my '06 Tiger. I don't have room in my little garage for three...
