Tool Tubes

Always going where no Van Van rider has gone before , today I installed Tool Tubes onto both of our 2019 Van Van's.

The job is not 100 % done yet, because.....(I hate to give away the secret plot lines)....but if you look at the plastic heat shield that is bolted onto the outside of the OEM muffler.....my plan is to order two of those heat shields...and install one on each of our new Tool Tubes, more for the aesthetics, than any practical reasons.

That way the "looks" of the Tool Tubes will match the overall "look" of the OEM muffler.

The Tool Tubes I installed at the MOBY version of the Mega Tool Tubes. The only difference between the MOBY and the MEGA versions, is the MOBY has a tethered line from the cap, to the body of the Tool Tube.

Making a long story as short as possible, I ended up buying a Black plastic cutting board from Walmart, cost about $ 11.00, then cut it in half lengthwise, to use half of it on each of our two Van Van's.

Bolted in place with a longer 6mm bolt, where the left side of the rear chrome rail is attached, then tie-wrapped up with MONSTER tie-wraps......you guys know which ones.....the kind the police use to tie your hands behind your back when they have already used all their metal handcuffs, and they are arresting 100 protesters at an Anti-Trump rally.

Yeah, those kind of MONSTER tie-wraps.

The Moby Tool Tubes are them BOLTED onto the 1/4" thick cutting board, using 8mm bolts, washers and lock-nuts.

On my previous, much more serious Adventure bikes, ridden to Alaska, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, Chile', Bolivia, etc, etc, etc....I have always made my own Tool Tubes, out of MUCH heavier duty 6" plumbing pipe. My own version of Tool Tubes has never failed me, having ridden all over the world.

But, for these little bikes, these Van Van's, I have no intention of riding it to the point that these Tool Tubes will break.

I had a pair of those tucked between the frame and hard panniers on my Versys 650. Since the bike had underbelly exhaust people kept confusing them for the exhaust pipes.

Who would buy a black cutting board for kitchen use? Mmm.

Installed the OEM plastic heat shield/muffler protector shield.......onto the new Tool Tubes.

Came out..."okay". Meaning it was not up to my normal standards of perfection.
I am okay with how they are, and look, as these are for aesthetic value only.
